Instead of begging for an update, we need to leverage Loss Aversion. Humans are biologically wired to feel the pain of losing something twice as powerfully as the pleasure of gaining something. We need to politely imply that you are moving on.
The Script
Hey [Name],
Usually when I don't hear back at this stage, it means the project is no longer a priority or you went in a different direction.
Should I close the file on this, or are you still planning to move forward?
Best,
[Your Name]This script works because it takes away the pressure. It gives them an easy out, but more importantly, it triggers their fear of loss. If they still want your services, they will reply immediately to stop you from "closing the file."
